Resolve, to Increase Commercial Driver’s License Examiner Capacity

Sec. 1.  Secretary of State to conduct 2-year seasonal commercial driver’s license examiner pilot program. Resolved: That the Secretary of State shall conduct a seasonal commercial driver’s license examiner pilot program by procuring 3 full-time equivalent employees to proctor written commercial driver’s license examinations from May 1st to September 30th in calendar years 2024 and 2025 to allow permanent commercial driver’s license examiner staff to conduct road evaluations.

Sec. 2.  Department of Secretary of State to oversee and evaluate pilot program.  Resolved: That the deputy secretary for the Department of the Secretary of State, Bureau of Motor Vehicles shall provide oversight and evaluation of the pilot program under section 1.

Sec. 3.  Report. Resolved: That, by December 3, 2025, the Secretary of State shall submit a report based upon the evaluation of the pilot program under section 2, along with any recommended legislation, to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over transportation matters. The joint standing committee may report out legislation based upon the report to the Second Regular Session of the 132nd Legislature.

SUMMARY

This resolve requires the Secretary of State to conduct a pilot program to hire 3 full-time equivalent examination proctors to work from May 1st to September 30th in the calendar years 2024 and 2025 to allow permanent commercial driver’s license examiner staff to conduct road evaluations. The Secretary of State is directed to submit a report and evaluation of the pilot program to the 132nd Legislature.
