An Act to Reduce Maine’s Dependence on Fossil Fuels and Carbon Footprint for Energy Production Using Waste Wood Fuel

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1.  35-A MRSA §3623, sub-§2, as enacted by PL 2021, c. 604, §3, is amended to read:

  1. 2. Program scope; limits on net generating capacity. The commission shall limit participation in the program in accordance with this subsection.
  2. A. The net generating capacity of a program participant may not be less than 3 megawatts or more than 10 20
  3. B. The total net generating capacity of all program participants combined may not exceed 20 40

The commission may modify the amount of total net generating capacity stipulated under this paragraph based on program experience.

SUMMARY

This bill increases the limit on the net generating capacity of a combined heat and power program participant from 10 megawatts to 20 megawatts and increases the maximum total net generating capacity of all program participants from 20 megawatts to 40 megawatts.
